Elected members can  come from all backgrounds and walks of life; they may be parents, students, business people or self-employed.

You don’t need any particular qualifications or experiences to be a Councillor, however you will need to be:
effective at decision-making;
  • a good communicator, able to relate to a wide range of people from many different cultures and disciplines;
  • someone who can create and maintain strong networks;
  • confident and clear when speaking in public; and
  • flexible and able to priorities and manage time effectively.

Electoral Roll
The Preliminary Electoral Roll for the 2016 election, including non-resident ratepayers, will be available for candidates to purchase after 15 July 2016. This can be done directly from Election Services website link on right.  The roll can also be inspected at Council offices between 15 July 2016 and 12 August 2016.

Copies of the 2013 Final Electoral Roll can be purchased in hard copy from Election Services ($55 including GST each plus postage).

Copies of the Parliamentary Electoral Roll can be inspected at Council offices.  These can also be purchased from the Electoral Commission contactable via election website link on right.

Copies of the Parliamentary roll can be purchased as an electronic file however in accordance with the Electoral Act ( Section 114 ) however there are criteria attached to this including the qualification of being a nominated candidate or representative of a political party.
2016 Candidates Information Handbook
 
The Candidate Information Handbook for the 2016 elections provides a general guide to the processes and policies for the upcoming election.
