From 1 February 2024, the government is standardising kerbside recycling nationwide. Simplifying and standardising what can be recycled to make it easier for you to put the right items in the right bin, no matter where you are.
Read more about the changes to standardise household recycling on the Ministry for the Environment website.
What types of products can be recycled?
The only materials now accepted in kerbside recycling bins are:
- Plastic bottles, trays and containers marked with recycling symbols 1, 2 or 5 ONLY
- Glass bottles and jars
- Paper and cardboard (including pizza boxes with food scraps removed)
- Aluminium and steel tins and cans
Recycling must be clean. No lids, caps or bottle tops can be placed in a yellow recycling bag for kerbside collection. Yellow recycling bags cost $1.80 and can be purchased throughout the district from most supermarkets and Council offices.
Also at the Dargaville Resource Recovery Park and Hakaru Re:Sort:
