White Ribbon Ride in Dargaville

When Council was asked by Tina Stewart to support White Ribbon Day this November it didn’t need asking twice.  Council was only too happy to lend its support to this wonderful event.  White Ribbon Day is an opportunity for everyone to show that violence toward women is not acceptable.

Mayor Neil Tiller “Violence is not acceptable in any form but this type of violence affects the most vulnerable.  It damages them in ways that aren’t always visible but it is a damage that lasts a lifetime and often into future generations.  We need to all say ‘enough – it stops here’.”

On 25 November at 11.00 am bikes and classic cars will be driving slowly through the main street of Dargaville (Victoria Street).  This is our way of taking part in the North and South Island White Ribbon Motorcycle Ride organised by the Patriot Defence Force Motorcycle Club.  This Club is made up of former or serving members of the New Zealand Defence Force.

All the bikes and cars will then park in The Warehouse car park where there will be the opportunity to listen to men who have turned their lives around, who are no longer violent toward women and to hear how this has changed them.

A large piece of white cloth is going to be passed around for people to sign showing their support against violence toward women.  This cloth will then be sewn into a big white ribbon and will be sent to Auckland where it will be put on display.

Everyone is welcome and we would like to see as many people as possible out on the footpaths supporting this event and showing that violence toward women is unacceptable.
