Improvements are underway at Te Kōpuru Domain, focused on upgrading play, picnic, and pathway areas.
As part of the upgrade, a new, nature‑inspired play and picnic area will be built on the grassed area to the north of the parking area. The new playground will incorporate a three-bay timber swing set, natural play elements, native and rongoā planting, and fruit trees to attract fauna such as birds, butterflies and bees.
The upgrade will also include a new meandering path to be constructed amidst native tree plantings on the former bowling green site, general maintenance, painting and planting at the Domain entrance, and maintenance of the path leading to the toilets.
Some work has already begun, with the old playground having been dismantled and the space returned to a grass area, and bollards have been installed at the park's entrance to prevent vehicles entering the Domain. The rest of the updates are expected to be completed before winter.
Council is seeking the community's feedback on what theme and features the local community would like to see at the new park, via this short survey.
