Mangawhai Road between Coal Hill Road and Cames Road will be under a 24/7 closure from 6am on Saturday 20 June until 6pm on Sunday 5 July, to allow road crews to make urgent repairs at the slip site. 

From this week, you’ll start to see new signs going up outside schools across the district as safer speed limits are rolled out. 

With reseals and rehabilitations programmed for the 2025/2026 year completed by the end of April, in May the roading teams focussed on routine maintenance and getting a head start on next year’s programme of works.  

Work to build resilience into the middle section of Cames Road in Mangawhai is now complete.  

A rebuild project is set to begin on Huarau Road, with crews preparing to restore a major culvert.

Road rehabilitations were completed for Victoria Street in Dargaville and Lawrence / Valley Road Intersection in Mangawhai this month, marking the end of two significant pieces of rehabilitation work for the roading teams. With these projects complete, investigation and testing for design of the upcoming financial year’s rehabilitation sites begins. 

Kaipara District Council has introduced immediate load restrictions on the Hakaru bridge on Kaiwaka–Mangawhai Road to keep the community safe and protect the bridge structure.

Work to extend the Mangawhai Heads surf beach carpark kicks off 18 May.

Work is set to begin to replace the narrow concrete hill section of Cames Road in Mangawhai.

Rehabilitations were in full swing throughout March, with significant progress being made on Victoria Street in Dargaville and at the Lawrence Road / Valley Road intersection in Mangawhai. 

By the end of February 2026, 160,000m2 (53%) of the 300,000m2 of road resealing planned for the 2025/2026 financial year had been completed. The remainder is programmed during April 2026.

Insley Street will be widened and strengthened as part of the district’s roading resilience programme, aimed at protecting our shoreline and roads from future storm damage.
