Wastewater works in progress. The green boxes are treatment pods, treating all the effluent before it is dispersed.
- June 05, 2026
Good things flowing at Taharoa Domain
Work is progressing well at Taharoa Domain to upgrade the wastewater system and improve campground facilities ahead of the next summer season.
Over recent weeks, contractor Innoflow has made great progress on the new wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). The main tanks and equipment are now in place, and the team is installing electrical components and preparing the base for a new control shed. The dispersal field has been expanded to increase capacity and support the safe, natural return of treated water into a fenced off area of surrounding native scrub. Good weather has helped keep the project moving.
Plans are also underway to upgrade the existing toilet and shower block. This includes a full interior refresh, lots of water-saving features like new cisterns, and improvements to make the facilities easier and more enjoyable to use.
Once complete, the new system will support both the campground and Pine Beach day-use area, improving capacity and reliability at one of Northland’s most popular spots.
The project is on track, with testing expected to begin later this month and the system up and running in July.
