A summer like no other: procurement opportunity for Kai Iwi Lakes campground services
Every summer, thousands of people make memories at Kai Iwi Lakes – swimming, camping and enjoying one of Northland's most spectacular natural destinations. Behind the scenes, a dedicated campground manager helps make that experience possible.
Kaipara District Council is seeking proposals from contractors or operators to provide campground management services at Pine Beach Campground for the 2026/2027 peak season.
Situated within the Taharoa Domain, the contract-for-service opportunity includes on-site accommodation for the successful contractor or operator and involves overseeing the day-to-day operation of the campground and helping create a welcoming environment for visitors throughout the busy holiday period.
With on-site accommodation provided, the contract offers a unique chance to spend summer living beside the lakes while delivering campground management services at a destination enjoyed by generations of New Zealanders.
Kaipara District Council Manager Community Services, Glynis McCarthy, said the contract is about much more than managing a campground.
"We're looking for a contractor or operator who will be a great host and ambassador for Kai Iwi Lakes, Taharoa Domain. For many visitors, the campground manager is one of the first people they meet when they arrive and one of the lasting memories they take away with them."
"This is a fantastic opportunity for the right contractor or operator to spend summer in an incredible location, meet people from all over New Zealand and play a key role in helping visitors enjoy everything Kai Iwi Lakes has to offer."
The successful contractor or operator will provide campground management services during the peak summer season, including overseeing day-to-day operations, welcoming guests, coordinating campsite occupancy, maintaining facilities and supporting the smooth operation of the site.
For the right contractor or operator, it's a chance to combine lifestyle, community connection and rewarding hands-on service delivery in one of Northland's most iconic holiday locations.
Proposals close on Monday 31 August 2026.
