Visitors to Taharoa Domain are set to benefit from improved campground facilities, with a major wastewater infrastructure project now complete.
The new wastewater treatment system is now fully operational, providing a more reliable service with increased capacity, serving both the Taharoa Domain campground and the nearby Pine Beach day-use area.
Construction has progressed steadily over the past two months, with new underground tanks installed, electrical systems connected, and a purpose-build control shed completed.
Contractor Innoflow has also completed an expanded dispersal field, which increases the system’s capacity and allows treated water to be safely returned to a fenced area of surrounding native scrub. Landscaping around the new facility features new bollards and grassing.
Up next, the campground’s toilet and shower block will be upgraded. The refurbishment includes a full interior refresh, new water-saving features, and improvements to make the facilities more comfortable and enjoyable for visitors.
Kaipara District Council Mayor Jonathan Larsen says these upgrades align with Kaipara District’s Long Term Plan, which sets out a vision for Kaipara as the place to be.
“Providing quality infrastructure is an important part of delivering on that vision.
These upgrades ensure Taharoa Domain has the reliable services and modern facilities needed to support visitors now and into the future, while protecting the unique environment that makes this place so special.”
The amenities upgrade is on track to be completed ahead of the busy summer holiday season.
Together, these upgrades will help keep Taharoa Domain welcoming for visitors while helping to care for the area long term.
