Our Council, Our Community: Meet Wendy
Nō Aotearoa ahau
I ahu tōku whānau ki Aotearoa nō Ingirangi me Aerani
I noho mātou ki Kaipara I roto ngā ringa atawhai o Te Uri o Hau
He mihi nei, he tangi nei, he whakaiti au ki te waka Mahuhukiterangi me te iwi Ngāti Whatua.
Ko Shepherd te whānau
Ko Wendy Salter tōku ingoa
My ancestors came from England to Kaipara on the Hanover in 1862. I humbly acknowledge Te Uri O Hau ~ Ngāti Whatua for enabling them to survive on settling in Kaipara.
I love working for Kaipara District Council.
Guided by the KDC staff values – mana, mahi tahi, pono, whakaute, mahia te mahi, I get to work with mana whenua, iwi, communities, schools, project managers and KDC staff to support them to fulfil their aspirations. This is wide ranging – including restoration of tāonga, guiding people who want to plan and organise community events, infrastructure projects, developing leadership and capacity in our communities, creating safer communities. The work is varied and so are the people I interact with.
Community-led initiatives are key in local democracy and I am here to support communities in realising their aspirations.
