Kaipara election countdown: 35.2% voter turnout so far
With just seven days left before voting closes at 12 pm on Saturday 11 October, 35.2% of enrolled voters across Kaipara District have cast their ballots in the 2025 local elections.
The breakdown voting returns by ward as of Friday 3 October 2025 are below. Voting returns are being uploaded daily Monday to Friday at kaipara.govt.nz/elections.

The 2025 local elections are run by postal voting and voting kicked off on Tuesday 9 September and goes through to 12 noon Saturday 11 October. Posted votes must be posted before Tuesday 7 October to ensure they are received by 12 noon on election day, Saturday 11 October 2025.
For this election Kaipara District Council are using First Past the Post (FPP). This means the candidate(s) with the most votes win. Voters must place a tick for each position available - Mayor (1 position), and then the ward they live in – Wairoa Ward (3), Otamatea Ward (2) or Kaiwaka-Mangawhai Ward (3).
Northland Regional Council also use the FPP system.
Voting papers can be dropped at ballot boxes at any of the following locations right up until 12pm 11 October 2025:
- Dargaville and Mangawhai council offices will be open on election day Saturday 11 October 9am to 12pm.
- Dargaville and Mangawhai libraries
- Dargaville Woolworths
- Kaiwaka Four Square, Ruawai Four Square and Maungatūroto Four Square
- Mangawhai New World
Those who haven’t received voting papers, their voting pack has been lost or damaged or they have enrolled after 1 August 2025 can cast a special vote. If you haven’t yet enrolled you can still do so until 10 October and be issued a special voting pack. Come and see us at one of the council offices in Dargaville or Mangawhai.
