Bruce Robertson appointed independent chair of Kaipara District Council Audit, Risk and Finance Committee
Kaipara District Council has announced Bruce Robertson as the new chair of its Audit, Risk and Finance Committee.
The Committee plays a key role in helping council to maintain strong financial and risk oversight. It provides advice to elected members on financial reporting, risk management, internal controls and audit matters, and monitors council’s financial performance against the Long Term Plan and Annual Plan.
The independent chair provides objective oversight and an external perspective on the risks and challenges facing the council.
Kaipara District Council Mayor Jonathan Larsen says Mr Robertson brings extensive public sector governance experience to the role.
“Mr Robertson is an established governance and risk expert within the public sector,” says Mayor Larsen.
“He previously served as Assistant Auditor-General, Local Government, at the Office of the Auditor-General, where he played a significant role in implementing the decision-making, planning, financial management and accountability provisions of the Local Government Act 2002.
“Since then, he’s held active membership in audit and risk committees and he is currently an independent member of 12 audit and risk committees, including for New Plymouth District Council, Christchurch City Council, Dunedin City Council, and Bay of Plenty Regional Council, and serves as Chair of the Ministry for Primary Industries Risk and Assurance Committee.
“Bruce’s experience and independent perspective will help ensure we continue to uphold robust financial stewardship and public accountability for the Kaipara community.”
Mr Roberston chaired his first Kaipara District Council Audit, Risk and Finance Committee on 19 February 2026.
Council and committee meeting times and agendas are published at kaipara.govt.nz/meetings.
