Contract awarded for Fagan Place pensioner housing
Kaipara District Council has awarded the contract to build the new Fagan Place pensioner houses, kickstarting construction for new warm, dry, modern and healthy homes. Following a formal procurement process, elected members agreed to award the construction contract to Laminata, a Northland based housing supplier.
Council owns community housing across the district, at Fagan Place Mangawhai, Kauri Court and Awakino Road in Dargaville, and in Ruawai. Dargaville and Ruawai housing was upgraded in the late 2000s. The Mangawhai units, originally constructed in the late 1970s have not been upgraded and are in poor condition. As landlords, Council must provide housing that complies with the Healthy Homes standards no later than 30 June 2025.
Last year, elected members agreed that modular, pre-fabricated homes for the Fagan Place site were the most cost-effective after considering the costs to refurbish and upgrade the existing units. The Laminata design is modern and well-constructed and exceeds current Healthy Homes standards.
Council staff and elected members met with current tenants earlier this month, to update them on the latest progress and the decision on the housing supplier. The project team are now working to confirm the final site plan and associated civil works.
