The Local Government Act 2002 requires all councils to have a Significance and Engagement Policy (the Policy). It helps us decide what the really important issues are to our community, and how and when we will involve the community in decision making.
The Significance and Engagement Policy:
- enables Council and its communities to identify the degree of significance attached to particular issues, proposals, assets, decisions and activities
- provides clarity about how and when communities can expect to be engaged in decisions to be made by Council
- informs Council from the beginning of a decision-making process about the extent of public engagement expected and the form and type of engagement required.
Council recently decided to review the Policy and is proposed to make amendments to it. Submissions on this matter closed on 3 September 2020. Council will now review all submissions before making a final decision, which is currently scheduled for the November Council meeting on 25 November.
