Kaiwaka footbridges

In July the Government announced a $750,000 Provincial Growth Fund grant to Kaipara District Council to build two footbridges in Kaiwaka.

The footbridges will provide safer access across the rivers alongside State Highway 1 and join to road underpasses that connect the township. This will open up recreational opportunities and access to parts of the Kaipara Harbour.

Our vision is to expand the Ancient Kauri Trail walking and cycling trail to include Kaiwaka. In time the Ancient Kauri Trail will extend from Omapere on the Hokianga Harbour to Maungaturoto, and then through Kaiwaka and out to Mangawhai. The trail will showcase the beautiful Kaipara district and the stories of where we came from.

The Council has now confirmed funding with MBIE and is working with engineers and surveyors, as well as representatives from NZTA and DOC to consider options for bridge location.
