Kaipara Biodiversity Improvement Fund

The Kaipara District Council's Biodiversity Fund for 2012 is now open to receieve Applications, which close 16 March 2012.


The Kaipara District Council has set aside $15,000 for a contestable Kaipara biodiversity (native animals, plants and environment) improvement fund.


This is to help and encourage people to restore and improve Kaipara’s natural environment.


Who can apply?

Any individual or group with a project that will enhance native biodiversity within the Kaipara District.  Private landowners, community and conservation organisations, local Maori groups and schools are all eligible to apply.

Criteria

Council will consider applications in terms of the following criteria:

  • Benefit to the native biodiversity in Kaipara
  • Extent of other contributions to the project, eg, voluntary labour
  • Degree of community benefit

Examples

Examples of projects that may be funded include protecting native bush or wetlands by fencing out stock, dune care, animal and pest control to enhance biodiversity plantings to enhance native bush or wetlands.

Process

Applications are called for in March of each year.  At that point, a link to an application form will be posted on this page.  Those received will be assessed by a Council committee in accordance with the criteria and a recommendation is made to the full Council on which applications get funded and their level of funding.

Conditions

  • No more that 50% of the cost of the individual projects may be funded through the contestable fund.
  • All funded projects need to be completed within the stated time and standard before reimbursements are made.
  • Projects designed to generate personal or commercial profit, as well as “amenity works” or in relation to resource consent requirements will not be eligible.
