Whenuanui Reserve: From State Highway 12, take Robertson Road just south of Ruawai.  This loop track has been developed by the Ruawai Lions Club and winds through attractive native bush, including Kauri, Puriri, Totara and lots of Nikau. About 30 minutes. Easy.

Paparoa Lions Walk: This walk starts at the “Village Green” in Paparoa and includes a dense stand of young Kauri and other natives, a pa site with a large number of well‑preserved storage pits, plus a boardwalk from which to observe mangroves and an estuary without getting wet or muddy feet.  At Pahi Road either retrace your steps or continue along the road back to Paparoa.  Either way is about 2 hours. Easy.

Maungaturoto Wharf: An easy 1 hour circular walk that includes farmland and native bush and is beside a river that flows into the Kaipara Harbour. The walk takes in the Town Wharf which was constructed for celebrations of the town’s 150th anniversary.  Entrance to the walk, which is in the grounds of the Maungaturoto Country Club on Bickerstaffe Road, is either opposite Otamatea High School or off the driveway into the Country Club.  

Dogs must be on leads and are not allowed on the walk in lambing season; late July, August and September.

Kauri Bushman's Walk:  An easy 15 minute walk.  The track starts approximately 1 km along Sterling Road from State Highway 12, near Matakohe.
